Description

Visit the one and only Pagan Temple in the entire Post Soviet area. This Greco-Roman Peripteros with a huge Armenian influence is located on the top of the inaccessible plateau providing a breathtaking view over the Azat River Gorge (UNESCO Heritage Site). You will get in touch with the Sacred Geometry widely used by ancient and medieval Armenian architects. Learn about the biggest war contribution paid by the Roman Emperor Neron and try to find the keys to the secrets of the temple. You’ll also see the Roman bath house – gifted by the King Thiridates the 3th to his beloved sister with a beautiful mosaic that holds a mysterious massage which kept the scientist busy up until recently, have a walk through the remnants of the Royal Palace(3th c.), the Cristian Church(7 th c.) and a Christian Chapel (9 th c.). Next stop is only j10 minutes away- straight to the gorge of the Azat river, where you’ll enjoy a walk to trough the alley of volcanic activities at the end of which you’ll see the temple as if you were the enemy trying to figure out their way to the Royal palace. Than it’s time for lunch which you can enjoy in one of the numerous restaurants with local cuisine and breathtaking view. Afterwards we head straight to Geghard Monastery (25 minutes away). Think of it as the Armenian Petra. The Geghardavank was hewn right into the solid rock meanwhile keeping all the canons of the Armenian church architecture and acoustics where you will enjoy a concert of Armenian Sharakans (the spiritual psalms unique only to Armenian culture). The way back to Yerevan is approximately 50minutes.
